Warsaw Courthouse

Warsaw Courthouse

Warsaw, Indiana

This watercolor explores the ornate architecture of the Kosciusko County Courthouse in downtown Warsaw, Indiana, focusing on the details that can easily disappear into the larger presence of the building. Rather than depicting the courthouse in its entirety, I chose a tightly cropped perspective that draws attention upward, layering columns, arches, stonework, and decorative flourishes into an almost abstract arrangement of shapes and patterns. Delicate ink lines emphasize the craftsmanship while transparent washes of muted stone, warm gold, and cool blue capture the character that time and weather have given the structure. The painting reflects my fascination with the overlooked details of familiar places—elements we may pass every day without truly seeing. By isolating this small piece of the courthouse, I hope to encourage the viewer to look more closely at the history and beauty that remains above the streets of downtown Warsaw.
