Strange Museum
Strange Museum
This watercolor captures the bold, offbeat charm of the “Strange Museum” in St. Robert, Missouri—a place where curiosity and spectacle live side by side. I was drawn to the hand-painted signage, the warm, weathered wood, and the flicker of marquee bulbs, all hinting at stories just beyond the frame. The angled composition and saturated reds and golds amplify that sense of invitation—slightly theatrical, slightly mysterious.
Details like the posters for fire manipulation and two-headed men speak to a long tradition of roadside wonder, where imagination is part truth, part illusion. In this piece, I explore the allure of the unusual—the way these places spark curiosity, nostalgia, and a willingness to believe, even if only for a moment.
