Polly
Polly
This watercolor captures a tiny Polly Pocket doll from my childhood, a toy that brings back so many memories of growing up. I absolutely loved Polly Pocket and the miniature worlds that could fit in the palm of my hand. There was something magical about how such a tiny toy could spark so much imagination. I wanted to play with that same sense of wonder in the background, creating a repeating pattern that becomes an optical illusion. Up close, the individual shapes and colors seem simple and still, but as you step away, the pattern begins to shift, warp, and move before your eyes. I love the contrast between the tiny, familiar doll and the unexpected movement surrounding her. Through this painting, I wanted to revisit a little piece of my childhood while exploring how perspective can change what we see. Just like Polly Pocket once invited me into an imaginary world, this painting invites viewers to look a little closer—and then take a step back to discover something new.
