Lucky
Lucky
This watercolor captures Lucky, a vintage Little People dog figurine that brings back some of my favorite childhood memories. Growing up, I loved playing with the Little People toys at my grandparents' house, creating imaginary worlds with these simple little characters. Lucky was one of those familiar toys that made visits to Grandma and Grandpa's feel so special. I wanted to bring that same playful sense of nostalgia into the painting while adding an unexpected visual twist. The bright yellow checkerboard background is designed as an optical illusion. Up close, the pattern appears simple and still, but as you step back, the squares begin to shift, warp, and create a sense of movement. I love how this playful effect contrasts with Lucky's sweet, familiar face. Through this painting, I wanted to celebrate the little toys that hold such big memories and the simple joy of childhood afternoons spent playing at my grandparents' house.
